Founded by Ruth Morley and Peter Lloyd in 1996, The Scottish International Flute Summer School is a renowned flute course now running for the 18th year. It offers a chance to study with some of the world's leading flute players in a relaxed and supportive environment. This year we are delighted to welcome both Karen Jones and Alison Mitchell to our team of top class tutors! Read more about them and our other staff members here.
This unique flute course will allow you the time and space to try out new ideas, to be challenged and take risks, to gain performance experience, and to meet flute players from around the world, to share ideas and learn from each other. It is a busy week, but we do try to make sure that you have some time to practise and try out the new ideas you come across during the classes.
The 2013 course is made up of masterclasses, private lessons, coaching sessions with our fantastic pianists, workshops and student concerts. There will also be recitals by Wissam Boustany, Ian Clarke and Alison Mitchell.
Whether you are a music student at a conservatoire or university and want to broaden your studies, or maybe you are at school and considering study on a performance course and want to find out more; maybe you are a flute teacher or a young professional player who wants some fresh ideas, or maybe you play purely for your own pleasure, whatever your needs, we can provide a week of fluting that will keep you going all year.
A note from the director:
After 17 years of running the Scottish International Flute Summer School I have decided to take a little sabbatical. I'm still working with Yvonne to plan the course, but I've decided to take a summer off in 2013 and take a break. So, I'm delighted to introduce Karen and Alison to the course, and to welcome back the rest of the team, and I wish you all a splendid course. I'm looking forward to hearing all about it and will be back in 2014!
Happy Fluting, Ruth
